Empowering Indigenous communities with business knowhow.
Jean Vincent has devoted his career to developing financial tools adapted to the First Nations context. In 1992, he founded the Native Commercial Credit Corporation (SOCCA), whose mission is to provide financing to Aboriginal entrepreneurs in Quebec. As a result, over 25 years, nearly $70 million has been invested in 700 business projects creating thousands of jobs.
In this video he describes how his banker father inspired him to become a CPA, and how once he was qualified his community approached him and asked for help with its economic development. He identifies the difficulties regarding financing caused by the Indian Act and describes how one of his greatest challenges was, and remains, how to resolve challenges arising from this problematic legislation.
